Founding Product Engineer

An early-stage team looking for its first dedicated product engineer to build the first version end to end.

About this role

You're at the stage where there's no product yet, no roadmap committee, and no one waiting to tell anyone what to build next. You need your first dedicated product engineer to build version one end to end. This is the role I'm looking for: own a feature from "should this exist" all the way to "it's in production," with no backlog handed down because there isn't one yet.

What I'm looking for in you

  • Small and technically serious; the people building the product are also the ones deciding what it should be.
  • No PM layer to translate through, no quarterly planning ritual.
  • You'd rather ship a rough version this week and find the real shape by using it than spec it to death first.
  • Engineers own things end to end and make calls without a meeting to authorize each one.

What you're building

Your product is developer-facing, which means your users are engineers and they notice everything. The stack is modern and unglamorous in the good way:

  • TypeScript and Next.js on the frontend
  • Node and/or Go services underneath
  • AI where it earns its place, not as decoration

At your size there are no walls between frontend, backend, and infrastructure, so the role touches all of it.

What you can expect from me

I've built version one before, more than once:

  • Give me a vague problem and I'll have something rough running this week, then we find the real shape by using it.
  • I've shipped open-source devtools people install, a webhook relay with thirty-odd releases, and an internal platform that 50-plus teams actually used.
  • I act like an owner from day one, because at this stage that's the only thing that works.
